Robert Blake is very, very correct
At the moment there is such an uproar over some wise words of caution uttered by the US Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Mr. Robert Blake, that I thought I would write in to agree with him. What he said was that even if the war is won, at least 1,000 rebels will melt into the crowd and wage a guerrilla war. Well said, Mr. Blake.
No country has more experience in urban guerrilla warfare than America. Their troops face attacks from such guerrillas on a daily basis in Iraq and Afghanistan causing loss of life and limb and damage to army property.
America faced defeat in Vietnam in the 1960s and were overwhelmed by very savage attacks from the Communist Pol Pot. They were not confronted by a conventional army but by ragtag Vietnamese guerrillas.
Our pseudo patriots are ever ready to use and distort statements made by this one or that to gain political mileage. Mr. Blake from all accounts is a well-liked genial and friendly Ambassador. Let us be diplomatic and tactful when dealing with men of his ilk. We need all the friends we can get in the awful quagmire we are in.
