SL: THROWING WATER AND STONES AT PASSING TRAINS!!!

Throwing water and stones at passing trains
Hikkaduwa is one of the main centres of Tourist attraction due to the availability of its splendid beaches, its glass-bottomed boats, its wide range of hotels and particularly its scenic beauty. To add more value to this place it is very necessary that a high standard of hospitality should be present in the minds of the inhabitants residing in and around Hikkaduwa if the good name of Hikkaduwa is to flourish around the world as a Tourist destination.

It is sad that in some areas to the south of Hikkaduwa, there are signs that the standard of hospitality is diminishing. Recently whilst travelling in the Ruhunu Kumari Train someone bathing in a well threw a bucket full of water at the passing train some of which went into the ear of a woman seated in the corner. What would have been the position if it struck a tourist or a person going for an interview or to attend a wedding ceremony?

It is high time that the Railway Authorities sent someone to the houses that have wells in and around Hikkaduwa and advised them to refrain from throwing water at passing trains.

A few decades ago, along the Southern Coastal line someone threw a stone at a passing train which struck one of our relatives and ultimately he died due to bleeding.

Those who throw stones and water at the train do not realise the danger of what they do.Someone should educate them.
