Hakeem says he is being harassed on his assets
SLMC leader Rauff Hakeem charged that he is being harassed by the Inland Revenue officers as the government has got them to make an inquiry on his assets.
Mr. Hakeem made this point at a public rally in Matara on Sunday.
The SLMC leader said this has been done because of the actions he took to unveil corruption in a state organization when he was the Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Public Accounts.
“We carried out an extensive inquiry on the Inland Revenue Department and recommended that the Commissioner General should be removed but the cabinet did not accept it and as a result I am been harassed.
Mr. Hakeem said this was the reason he left the government last year.
The SLMC leader lauded the security personnel who are rendering a great service in the North and the East but stressed that people’s right for information should be preserved.
SLFP M leader and MP Mangala Samaraweera who slammed the government said its action is pushing the Tamils and the Muslims towards communalism. “The government treats Tamils as second class citizens,” he said.
He said the government is criticizing the judiciary today while keeping those who threw stones at the courts in its cabinet.
Mr. Samaraweera said no one can see the new Sri Lanka which this government promised to create. “Only the henchmen of this government are enjoying the new Sri Lanka with their unlimited perks,” he said
