Anuradhapura Cor.
Chief Incumbent of the Mihintale Raja Maha Viharaya Ven. Walawahengunuwewe Dharmakeerthi told the media that since giving evidence in the case in which a group of people attacked the Anuradhapura UNP Organiser Dr. Johnpulle’s residence and caused extensive damage to properties, he was unable to move out of the Viharaya and was under constant threat by unknown persons
At a press conference held at the Viharaya he said that on Saturday night a group of persons numbering about 20 had arrived at the Viharaya and inquired whether he was within the premises. When his disciples had replied in the negative the group had used threatening words against him and had scolded him before leaving the premises. The mob had also launched a search for the monk
He said that on hearing of Dr. Johnpulle’s house and properties being attacked he went to the residence of the Doctor since he had taken medical treatment from him and was also well known to him. He said that he complained to the Police about the attack on Johnpulle’s residence but Police failed to take any action against the attackers. He also said that the attack took place three days before the North Central Province elections. He said that he was unable to attend any funerals to perform last rites or alms givings.
He complained that despite the IGP directing the Anuradhapura Police to provide him with Police security, this security has been denied to him on the instructions of certain Police officer in the area.
