We are passing through a period of doom: Ranil
Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe in his New Year message noted the people were now passing through a period of doom with no salvation.
He said the dawn of a New Year was an opportunity to redefine our lives and our environment in a positive way.
The opposition leader said with the New Year we step into the future with new vigour and confidence, often putting to right, the mistakes we have made consciously or not.
“We have now reached a moment in our life that erodes human value, that widens the gap between those with plenty and those in poverty and a moment where human dignity and freedom is fast diminishing. We are passing through a period of doom with no salvation.
This New Year we therefore have to make a wish to steer clear from this dark era in creating for us a future with promise and prosperity.
A wish that we would all be partners in a modern, productive world with dignity.
This is now the time to achieve that wish as One People and in Unity. I wish all of us Sri Lankans a peaceful 2009 where we could live together in unity and live for common prosperity,” he said.
