SEE! HOW SINHALA REGIME DENYING VOTERS THEIR DEMOCRATIC RIGHTS!!!

Shock treatment

By Kurulu Kariyakarawana

More than 1000 voters residing in the Slave Island, Wekanda and Hunupitiya areas expressed deep shock and displeasure over the non-receipt of polling cards for Saturday’s Western Provincial Council elections.

Adding to the increasing number of election related irregularities reported in the Western Provincial Council in recent days, those who had not received polling cards so far were reported to be either supporters of the UNP or the SLMC.

Colombo District SLMC Group Leader Arshad Nizamdeen told the Daily Mirror that the Grama Seva Officer in the area had not distributed the polling cards as usual.

The Daily Mirror learnt that the post office in the area had not delivered the polling cards to the GS Officer, however Slave Island post office officials said they had distributed the polling cards according to their lists but many could not be delivered as there were no one to accept them during the time of distribution.

A mini commotion was reported yesterday when the people in the area had stormed the post office in the morning looking for their polling cards.

While hundreds of residents had managed to collect their cards from the post office while more than 1000 – of which the majority were Muslims - were shocked to learn that their names were not included on the polling card delivery list, Mr. Nizamdeen said.
