Govt. determined to provide what Jaffna people lost during troubled times
Minister of Vocationl and Technical Training Piyasena Gamage, speaking at a ceremony to award certificates to the successful students of the Jaffna Technical College, told the students and parents assembled there, that the Government was determined to provide the people of Jaffna with all they had lost during the unfortunate troubled times as quickly as possible.
The Minister said the Jaffna Technical College was upgraded to Northern Technical and Vocational Training College, raising the National Vocational qualification to the levels of 4 and 5 by introducing a new curriculum.
"This is my 4th visit to the Training College after ending the unfortunate conflict. Today the time is right for the people of the North, East and the South to live in peace, harmony and friendship. The Sri Lankans, where ever they live must be able to enjoy all rights without any discrimination," he said.
The Minister said that of all colleges in the country the Jaffna the Technical and Vocational Training College had the highest number of students on its register. The new building complex presently under construction was funded by the Korean government. All this was possible due to the peaceful environment created by President Mahinda Rajapaksa. "The government is committed to protect the rights of the people allowing them to live a full life in the country.
Within a short time all displaced people living in relief villages and welfare centres will be settled in their original homes. For this, the government has taken steps to quicken the pace of demining and providing roads, water, electricity and livelihood to the people before resettlement.
Minister Douglas Devananda and Mahendram Krisna, President of the Students Organisation also spoke.
