Aspiring maths instructors score as low as five marks

Chief Minister of the Southern Province Shan Wijelal Silva said that some teachers who had sat for a recent examination for teacher instructors had scored as low as five marks for mathematics.
Addressing a recent meeting in Galle to hand over letters of appointment to teacher instructors, he said that those who had obtained low marks wanted to be appointed as mathematics instructors. Nothing could be more ridiculous than this, he said. Expressing serious concern over the deteriorating standards, the Chief Minister said he was in a dilemma.
Eighty nine persons received letters of appointment from the Southern PC.
